Happy New Year: Peace and goodwill to my fellow Americans

Sabrin Murray 2.26.18 04

In New Orleans the new year began with a horrific murderous act by an army veteran who drove a truck through a crowd in the French Quarter. 15 individuals have lost their lives and more deaths may be announced in the next 24 hours. The driver was shot dead by police and an IED was found in the truck. The FBI announced there were probably others involved in planning this attack.

One of my fears is that this senseless attack may lead to our civil liberties will be furthered undermined. Will truck owners be subject to more road stops? Will checkpoints in and around America’s metropolitan areas become the norm?

Is this attack a consequence of America’s interventionist foreign policy? Shouldn’t America First mean no entangling alliances in the Middle East and Europe? The founders warned us about such policies. The lessons have not been learned by the DC political establishment? Will Trump be a true American Firster or another interventionist? We will know soon.
