Guest at Las Vegas Strip Resort Accused of Using Homemade Flamethrower

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA  – A guest at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort has been arrested and charged with assault, arson, and drug possession after allegedly using a homemade flamethrower device to trigger the building’s sprinkler system.

According to the 8 News Now Investigators, Gavin Hamilton, 26, was involved in an incident on September 1st that prompted a counterterrorism response. A maintenance worker encountered Hamilton in a stairwell after he activated a water flow alarm.

When maintenance workers approached Hamilton, he allegedly lit an unknown liquid through a hose towards them. Police described the device as a flammable liquid connected to a 3-foot-long metal hose.

Hamilton, who was covered in a black oily substance, told police he was trying to escape two people in the stairwell. He admitted to possessing a variety of items, including bongs, butane, and a meth pipe, which he used to create the flamethrower device.

Hamilton intended to use the sprinkler system to unlock a locked door, but only black water was released, and the door remained closed.

Hamilton was a guest at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort. He failed to appear for his initial court hearing on September 2nd and has been detained at the Clark County Detention Center on a $34,000 bail.
