Happy State of the Union Thursday! And welcome to my new subscribers—I hope you enjoy all that is In My Orbit. As stated in the welcome email, free subscribers get general content and occasional videos while paid subscribers get the deep dive analysis, full video and audio interviews, and media hits.
The start of 2024 has been akin to drinking water from a fire hose, but in a good way. I was invited in January to be a visiting fellow with the Independent Women’s Forum, an organization that advocates for policies that promote economic and personal freedoms for women. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to partner with other writers, lawyers, and policy makers across the nation toward that end, and I have already penned several pieces on their blog and in other publications, much of it surrounding California’s Assembly Bill 5 (AB5) and the recent United States Department of Labor final worker classification rule , which seeks to take the same destruction AB5 wrought on independent professionals nationwide. Next week I will be a part of Congressional meetings, along with IWF staff and other fellows, to talk about the DOL Rule and Rep. Kevin Kiley’s (R-CA) and Sen. Bill Cassidy’s (R-LA) introduction of a Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn it. I have written extensively about AB5 and the DOL Rule on RedState.
I attended CPAC 2024 with Team RedState, and managed to get out a few video missives that I hope you were able to view, along with the coverage of the speakers, panels, and interesting people that make up this longstanding political conference. Post Super Tuesday and with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s suspension of her presidential campaign, it is a Trump v. Biden contest. Geriatric on Geriatric, which does not sit well with many people. With the main race heating up, along with local coverage in my new state of Alabama and my old state of California, stay tuned to “What’s Spinning” to keep up with all the coverage on RedState, 1819 News, and additional outlets where I publish.
